For several years, the enthusiasm for simple, practical and inexpensive vehicles has not waned. As a result, many manufacturers are investing in this market where margins are limited. In 2019, it is possible to buy a new car from 7,900 euros. Currently, there are five models displayed for less than 10,000 euros. In this perspective, you will find here compiled the floor prices of all new vehicles offered under the bar of 13 750 euros to give you the list of the 25 cheapest cars on the French market. Discover the classification in pictures in the slide show above.
During the second quarter of 2019, several base rates were raised. This concerns the Toyota Aygo (from €10,900 to €11,290), the Peugeot 108 (from €10,850 to €11,450), the Dacia Dokker (from €9,650 to €13,250), the Smart Forfour (from €12,190 to €13,390) and the Dacia Lodgy (from €10,150 to €13,750). On the other hand, it should be noted that the entry price of the Mitsubishi Space Star has fallen from €11,190 to €10,490. Two models have been added to our Top 25, the Skoda Citigo, which is no longer on the market, and the Volkswagen Up from €10,950 to €14,020, leaving room for the Suzuki Ignis (€12,990) and the Fiat Tipo (€13,090).
At the end of the first quarter of this year, the entry-level models that had been the subject of a price increase were the Citroën C1 (from 10,550 to 11,050 euros), the Volkswagen Up (10,700 to 10,950), the Mitsubishi Space Star (10,990 to 11,190), the Kia Picanto (11,000 to 11,100), the Hyundai i10 (11,050 to 11,150) and the Opel Karl (12,000 to 12,190). The Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta join this Top 25 from 10,990 and 12,900 euros respectively. The Fiat Tipo was released while the Punto was no longer sold in France for example.
From September to the end of December 2018, the Dacia Logan, which remains the cheapest new car, saw its basic price increase (from 7,790 to 7,900 euros). This is also the case for the Ford Ka + (from €10,350 to €10,450), the Citroën C1 (from €10,450 to €10,550), the Peugeot 108 (from €10,700 to €10,850), the Smart Fortwo Coupé (from €10,990 to €11,290), the Smart ForFour (from €11,890 to €12,190), the Opel Karl (from €11,950 to €12,000), the Seat Mii (from €12,250 to €12,425) and the Fiat 500 (from €12,690 to €12,990).
From March to September 2018, the models whose entry-level price increased are the Suzuki Celerio (from 8,990 to 9,790), the Ford Ka + (from 10,150 to 10,350), the Peugeot 108 (from 10,500 to 10,700) which goes from 68 to 72 hp like the Citroën C1 whose price is unchanged at 10,450 euros, the Volkswagen Up (from 10,500 to 10,700), the Kia Picanto (from 10,900 to 11,000), the Hyundai i10 (from 10,950 to 11,050), the Opel Karl (from 11,800 to 11,950) and especially the Seat Mii (from 9,895 to 12,250) which charges more for its equipment with the Style finish and the abandonment of the 5-door body.
Our list of winners is an opportunity to highlight models that are not very exposed, but offered at very attractive prices, such as the Suzuki Celerio. A competition that is good for consumers in the long term. In 1996, it was necessary to save 6.36 months of minimum wage to buy a Seat Marbella (then invoiced 36,590 francs), the cheapest vehicle on the market. Twenty years later, the price of the cheapest car sold is equivalent to 5.3 months of minimum wage... Other good news for buyers: while most cars offered fewer than 12,500 euros are city cars, there is also a station wagon, a compact minivan, an SUV or a ludospace. Large families or drivers who prefer to live in are not forgotten. However, these advances have a cost. That of a more distant production: a Seat Marbella was manufactured in Spain, while the Dacia is now assembled in Romania or Morocco, where wages are more compressed. As in many areas, globalization is on the move...
